Monday, Jan 1 Yuki Teikei Haiku Society membership dues are payable. Domestic and Canada $32; Seniors, $26; International $40; International Seniors $31. Mail check to Toni Homan, 9457 Mereoak Circle, Elk Grove, CA 95758.

Saturday, Jan 13       1 PM – 4 PM YTHS Meeting, the Firehouse, San Jose History Park. Newcomers and guests are welcome.  We will enjoy a ginko, share poems, and then participate in a workshop on members poems, written either before the meeting or on the ginko.  Directions to the History Park.
Thursday, Feb 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for first 2018 Geppo.
Saturday, Feb 10     1 PM – 4 PM YTHS Meeting, the Firehouse, San Jose History Park. Newcomers and guests are welcome. Joan Zimmerman will present a program Gender in Haiku. Directions to the History Park.
Saturday Mar 10  1 PM – 4 PM YTHS Meeting,  Newcomers and guests are welcome. Phillip Kennedy will speak on Kigo Seasonal Sets, how the same kigo can be used with modifiers in different seasons. The meeting will be at Cliffwood Estates Mobile Home Park Clubhouse, 3200 Cliffwood Drive, Soquel. Directions to the Clubhouse: On Cliffwood Drive take the wide road to the green-colored Clubhouse. Park by the Clubhouse or on the right side of street (near the bottlebrush plants) just before clubhouse.
Saturday Apr 14   1 PM – 4 PM YTHS poets will meet for a picnic lunch at the Hakone Gardens picnic tables. Newcomers and guests are welcome. Prior to a ginko Patrick Gallagher will review haiku writing using cinematic techniques, and introduce a technique used frequently by Yasujirō Ozu. It is suggested that attendees bring a snack (peanut-free) or beverage to share. Monday, May 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for second 2018 Geppo.
Saturday May 12     1 PM – 4 PM Friendship Garden tour, and haiku poetry reading at the Okayama Room of the Leininger Center, Kelley Park, 1300 Senter Road, San Jose. Brochure for the event.

Featuring four notable haiku poets:

  • Yvonne Cabalona
  • David Grayson
  • Carolyn Fitz
  • Kath Abela Wilson

The schedule for the day is:

• 10-11 AM  Welcome and introduction to haiku for beginners in the Okayama Room.
• 11 AM-Noon  A Garden walking tour, meet at the Okayama Room.
• Noon-1 PM  On your own for lunch and ginko (haiku-writing) walk.
• 1-4 PM   At the Okayama Room – Featured readers; followed by an open-mike haiku reading.

Note on Parking – The Leninger Center is just north of the Friendship Garden where we have been accustomed to meet. Parking is available for $10 at the Kelley Park Parking Lot at 1400-1498 Senter Rd, which is adjacent to the Leninger Center, and for $6 at the Friendship Garden Parking Lot at 1650 Senter Road, a short walk from the Center. Metered parking is available in a lot at the east end of Phelan Avenue, a longer walk from the Center.

 Saturday Jun 2  9:30 AM – 4:30 PM A haibun workshop by Joan Zimmerman and Patricia J. Machmiller will be held at the Monterey Dunes Colony, Moss Landing. We will study how to juxtapose prose and haiku. There will be opportunities for writing new work, improving drafts, and sharing work individually as well as within the group. This is a fundraiser for YT; attendees are invited to make a donation on the order of $60 if possible.

Saturday Jun 16    1 PM – 4 PM Haiga party gathering to share your haiga and process/ get inspired /motivated by others/ and most of all, to have a fun afternoon with friends.
Peach cobbler/whipped cream and iced peach / lemon balm tea provided.
Please bring a ( peanut free ) snack for sharing.
Party at:  Carolyn Fitz’s redwood forest garden in Scotts Valley. Please RSVP to Carolyn/email:  inkstonefitz@comcast.net  and to get address if needed. For further directions, please consult Geppo.

YTHS Tanabata Celebration at the home of Anne and Don Homan, 10695 Morgan Territory Road, in the hills above Livermore, CA.  Newcomers and guests are welcome. Please bring a dish (peanut-free) for a pot-luck dinner. Call 925-443-9440 for directions.

The 2018 Society Annual Membership meeting. will be held on Sunday, September 16, at the  Cliffwood Estates Mobile Home Park clubhouse, 3200 Cliffwood Drive, (off Soquel drive) Soquel, beginning at 11 am, ending no later than 3 pm.

Please park in the lot next to clubhouse, or on the street directly before the clubhouse on the bottlebrush side of the road, opposite of homes.

Members are invited to bring potluck offerings for a midday meal.  Please bring your beverage of choice and a table setting as well. A kettle of hot water will be available, also a stove-top and oven.

Saturday, Oct 13 San Jose Poetry Festival. More details in the Geppo.
Thursday, Nov 1 Submissions deadline (YTHS members only) for fourth 2018 Geppo.
Friday Nov 9 through Monday Nov 12 YTHS Haiku Retreat at Asilomar Conference Center, Monterey Peninsula. Newcomers welcome. Set in a beautiful natural landscape with opportunities to learn from other experienced poets and artists. More details can be found here.
